The Snow Pony

The Snow Pony

by Alison Lester; Allen & Unwin, 2005. Softcover, 232pp RRP $16.95. ISBN: 978-1-74175-888-7.

February 6, 2011

The Snow Pony is a brumby from the Australian outback which comes into the life of young Dusty Riley, who lives way out in the boonies and whose family is struggling to make ends meet during the drought.

The Snow Pony and her young rider prove their mettle by winning money showjumping, but face a huge challenge when Dusty's dad is injured miles from nowhere and the pair must get help.

Some of the interesting Aussie phrases, such as: " ... Dusty saw her mouth squash up like a chook's bum ...", give a laugh.

Colourful, but nevertheless closer to home than many British or American horsey books aimed at teenagers.
