Deb to blog about Kiwi thoroughbred Shaun

July 28, 2011

The adventures of Kiwi thoroughbred Shaun, also known as Cusack, are being chronicled in a blog by his Kansas owner, Deb Johnson.

Shaun was rescued from kill pens in Washington state thanks to the generosity of Horsetalk readers.

He is now living in Kansas with Deb's family, getting to grips with life in a herd and putting on condition.

"I'm trying to get Shaun's story down, because I know with time, I'll forget the details," Deb explains.

"There were so many wonderful details. Miracle after miracle."

Deb reports that Shaun had the vet visit recently to check out what appeared to be an upper respiratory track infection.

"His lungs are clear ... he's eating well, drinking and frisking me for carrots. I think he's OK.

"The blog got a bit interruped by today's drama. I'm hoping it will get interrupted a lot by good things.

"The vet said it looks like he probably has some nerve damage in his hips from a previous injury. Lots of atropy there. He should have seen it before!

"His top line is still pretty bad, but making progress, too. Sometimes horses just need time in a pasture so they can move, graze and be a horse. If that's what he needs, he's in the right place."
