Charity ponies become Pony Club champions

September 19, 2010

A charity's fabulous foursome has ridden to victory against a Pony Club team in a fun competition at the British Pony Club Championships.

The Blue Cross ponies, from left, Blue Cross Tommy, Blue Cross Tabitha, Blue Cross Bailey and Blue Cross Ginger, were ridden to victory by Blue Cross staff in an exciting mounted games competition.

They successfully battled it out against Pony Club members in some fast and furious games, including bending poles and a big sack race.

Winning the competition has a rags to riches story for little Blue Cross Tabitha.

She was among 97 horses and ponies rescued by the RSPCA from Spindles Farm in an operation deemed the largest ever horse rescue in Britain.

She was thin, wormy, dehydrated and hungry, and was standing up to her fetlocks in faeces.

She was tragically surrounded by many recently deceased companions and was lucky to survive herself. Now she has been transformed into a wonderful riding pony and will soon be ready to find a loving new home, the charity says.
