Aust rodeo chops wild horse race

Australia's Mt Isa Rodeo has withdrawn its Wild Horse race under the threat of legal action from the Royal Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

The move was notified by Wendy Parson of Animals Australia, which had documented rodeos showing high injury rates from the event.

It has prompted the animal advocacy group SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness) to request that officials for the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo (CFD) also discontinue its Wild Horse Race. In 2005 SHARK documented a horse that died during the race at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo.
