Video footage, pictures, released by judge in Amersham case

December 16, 2008

The judge hearing animal neglect charges against five people following a massive horse rescue operation in Buckinghamshire has released unseen video footage and pictures taken from the property.

Judge Andrew Vickers allowed public release of the material following a media approach.

Spindles Farm, in Amersham, was at the centre of a major horse recovery operation in January this year, with 111 horses removed from the property by animal welfare agencies.

James Gray, 45, his wife Julie, 41, and daughters Jodie, 26, and Cordelia, 20, face charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and two counts of neglecting an animal's welfare. A boy, 15, faces the same charges. The defendants deny all charges.

They are on trial before Judge Vickers in the Bicester Magistrates' Court.

The footage was taken by animal welfare officers.
