Laine Ashker and Frodo Baggins.

Laine Ashker, the rider badly injured in a fall at the Kentucky Three-Day-Event in April, is home and looking forward to riding a horse again.

Ashker, 25, and her horse, Frodo Baggins, fell during the cross-country phase at Kentucky. Frodo fractured his skull in the fall and he was euthanised, and Ashker remained in intensive care at the University of Kentucky Hospital until her discharge on Tuesday. Ashker broke her jaw, ribs, collarbone, and shoulder blade, and her lungs collapsed in the accident.

She was told of Frodo Baggins's death when she was discharged. "The emotional impact is just beginning," her mother, Valerie Ashker, told the Kentucky Herald-Leader this week. "Now my work begins trying to get her to grapple with the fact that her dear horse is gone."

Valerie Ashker said her daughter would ride again in about three weeks' time.
