Filly by George Washington born in Ireland

February 21, 2008

A filly foal sired by ill-fated galloper George Washington has been born at Ireland's National Stud.

The filly is out of Flawlessly, by Rainbow Quest, who died last July at the age of 26. Foaled at Tully in County Kildare, the filly was bred by Italian breeder Stefano Luciani of Azienda Agricola Luciani near Rome.

George Washington was European champion miler in 2006, but proved a failure in the breeding shed, with only 50 mares covered and only the Flawlessly filly to show for it. He was put back into race training but was injured during the Breeders Cup Classic last October, and euthanised on the track.

He was owned by Roy and Gretchen Jackson, who also lost Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro in January 2007 following complications after a race-day injury.
