Jane has always had a keen interest in horses, and was active in equestrian events as both a competitor and a groom from her early days until the late 1980s. Jane attended the Northland Pony Club alongside Blyth Tait and competed at Pony Club Championships against Andrew Nicholson and Mark Todd (unsuccessfully, she adds). She was also a member of the 1979 NZ InterPacific Pony Club team.
Nowadays Jane’s riding endeavours are gentle hacks around the North Canterbury farm where she lives. Jane has covered several events as a journalist, including Badminton, Burghley, Luhmuhlen, Blenheim, Taupo and Puhinui. She describes the highlight of her journalism career so far as being her role as media liaison for ESNZ at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
One of her current roles is to keep the Eventing NZ Facebook and Twitter accounts up to date.
“Social media is great as it gives everyone the chance to keep up with all the latest information and results. Many of our best riders are based on the other side of the world, but through Twitter and Facebook, we can get updates instantly. Not quite as good as being there, but nearly!”
Jane has media accreditation as a freelancer for the equestrian events at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
