Sick horses in a stable just kilometres from the Victorian border have tested negative for equine influenza, it was revealed today.
Fears grew after horses in the stable at Albury had elevated temperatures. A positive results would have seen a restriced zone that crossed the border from New South Wales into Victoria. The restricted area would have included Victoria's Wodonga area, home to 18 trainers and 100 racehorses.
The results were made know this afternoon.
Victoria remains free of the disease, which is widespread in New South Wales.
Officials have tested about 540 horses in Victoria so far for the disease, and all results have been negative.
