Barbaro's full brother born

April 23, 2007

A full brother to late Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro has been born at Millridge Farm in the United States.

The 148-pound bay colt was born at 2.08am on April 20. The youngster is out of La Ville Rouge by Dynaformer.

Millridge Farm staff report that both the mare and foal are doing well.

The colt joins his yearling full brother, Nicanor, at the farm.

La Ville Rouge will be put back into foal to Dynaformer again.

Barbaro leapt to fame with a fine win in the Kentucky Derby, showing the potential to be a Triple Crown winner.

That dream ended seconds after the start of the Preakness Stakes, when he shattered a lower hind leg.

A well publicised eight-month effort followed to return Barbaro to health. While the fractures healed, the horse was troubled by laminitis in his good legs, and was finally euthanized.
