Barbaro is on the improve

January 22, 2007

Barbaro continues to improve after the setback last week to his recovery involving laminitis in his "good" foot.

"Barbaro's comfort level is improving steadily, and we are gradually tapering off his pain medication," said Dr. Dean W. Richardson, Chief of Surgery.

"His vital signs are stable, and his appetite is good."

In last weekend's procedure, Barbaro underwent general anesthesia to enable a full examination of his foot. Dr Richardson said that Barabro's comfort "improved considerably" since the operation.

"He has been standing and moving around his stall well enough that sling support has not been added since. His appetite has improved and his vital signs are stable. Overall, we are pleased with his progress following the setback to his left hind foot."

Barbaro remains in the Intensive Care Unit of Penn's George D. Widener Hospital at New Bolton Center.
