A two-day professional veterinary education programme is being run at the London International Horse Show in London in December.

The initiative from the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) will see leading vets and physiotherapists consider approaches to understanding and managing complex unsoundness, and how everyday veterinary practice can apply the expertise of professionals who work within specific veterinary and non-veterinary aspects of elite equestrian sport.

BEVA has brought together an experienced lineup of speakers for the programme, on Thursday and Friday, December 14 and 15 at ExCeL London.

They include:

  • Liz Brown, performance horse clinician and veterinary lead for London 2012 and Rio 2016;
  • Rachel Murray, researcher, sport horse clinician and BEF team member;
  • Lee Clark, a physiotherapist who iscompleting a PhD on rider position;
  • Anna Johnson, a physiotherapist and a veteran of numerous Olympic and World Championship support teams;
  • Ben Benson, Master Farrier and veteran of Olympic support teams and the BEF’s World Class Programme;
  • Sam Cutts, a performance horse vet, who breeds and produces her own eventers;
  • Annabelle Galt, a veterinary physiotherapist, clinical educator and event rider;
  • Rachel Greetham, physiotherapist to the British Teams for Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing;
  • Mark Fisher, a Master Saddler who works on the BEF’s World Class Programme.

BEVA CEO David Mountford expected “a strong demand for places on the programme in such an exciting environment. It’s hard to think of a better venue for our veterinary community to get together during the Christmas period”.

The show’s Event Director Simon Brooks-Ward said ExCeL give us the opportunity to grow the Show and offer opportunities to all facets of the equestrian community. “Our aim is to bring everyone together at Christmas and this is an important step in achieving our goal.”

» Registration for the seminars, Unravelling Unsoundness: How to Approach, Understand and Manage a Complex Case, on December 14, and Championing Soundness: Unlocking Lessons from Elite Sport, on December 15, start at £175.
