Thoroughbreds evacuated as barn fire takes hold in Pennsylvania

Eight thoroughbreds were successfully moved to safety as a restored 200-year-old barn went up in flames in Pennsylvania.

The weekend blaze at Greenbriar Farm in Alburtis destroyed the barn and also claimed more than 4000 bales of hay and straw.

Farm personnel quickly moved the horses, including two foals, to safety as the fire took hold around 8pm on Sunday. Five barn cats have also been safely accounted for, according to reports.

About 100 firefighters across the district arrived at the property, owned by the Chovanes family, and worked into the early hours to extinguish the blaze.
