Video captures horse rider crossing busy New York bridge

A video has emerged on Twitter showing a cowboy riding across a busy New York bridge while leading another horse.

The local Port Authority police dispatched a patrol car, which swung in behind and put on its lights to aid the trio’s safe passage, but the rider may be in a spot of bother.

The crossing on late Monday morning was captured on video by Ryan Calvert, who goes by the Twitter handle @calvs88.

The video shows the horses stepping out amid the traffic on the Outerbridge Crossing, which connects Perth Amboy, New Jersey, with Tottenville, Staten Island. It has about 30 million vehicle movements a year.

The horses were well under control as they negotiated the traffic and bridge, but traffic did bank up behind them.

Local media reports that the rider resembled “Doc” Mishler, who is traveling the US on horseback in his charitable quest to raise awareness about child hunger.

The rider called by a nearby Staten Island police precinct so officers could determine his reasons for taking a horse on the bridge, which is forbidden.

Whoever it is runs the risk of receiving a citation for impeding traffic.
