The 51-year run of the Bulletin, the equestrian magazine produced by Equestrian Sports New Zealand (ESNZ), will end with the publication of the June issue.
The decision was announced today by the ESNZ board.
Chief Executive Vicki Glynn said it was a sad day for ESNZ, the contributors and all the people who had played a part in bringing the magazine to life over the last half-century.
“The decision was made on a commercial basis,” she said. “ESNZ is not in the business of commercial publishing and the magazine had fallen in subscriptions and advertising in the past 12 to 18 months.
“We had a plan in place to reinvigorate it, but the management time and resource required to ensure this happened was going to severely impact the performance of the organisation in other areas.
“We could not afford the investment in time and money to last the distance,” she said.
Glynn said there were too many people to acknowledge individually.
“But we would like to thank all the people over the years who have played their part in celebrating equestrian endeavours through the pages of the Bulletin.”
All subscribers with issues still owing have been issued with a credit note.
Glynn says the organisation will review how it uses its communication channels and online presence to deliver news and information to members.
