Eventer National du Pas dies on US cross-country
Eventing horse National du Pas died after collapsing between cross-country obstacles at the Spring Bay Horse Trials in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday.
National du Pas, a 15-year-old Selle Francais gelding owned by Elizabeth Stewart, died between fences 11 and 12 of the event’s training division.
A statement from organisers said the cause of death of National du Pas was not yet known, but a necropsy was being undertaken at the Kentucky Diagnostic Lab. Information from this would be used to help the USEA Equine Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research Study.
Rider Blake Park was not injured in the fall, but was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for observation.
The French-bred National du Pas was by the holsteiner Lord Calando (by Lord) and from the Rivage du Poncel mare Hedie du Pas. Earlier in his career in the US he was ridden by Valerie Vizcarrondo, Elizabeth Bonner, and Madeline Wood.
