New Zealand Olympic eventer Caroline Powell has been laid up for several weeks after breaking her leg in two places in a riding accident.
While schooling a horse at home last month, Powell was crushed against a fence, breaking her tibia and fibula.
Powell told British magazine Horse & Hound that she hoped to be back riding within the next few weeks. “It is very unlucky, but also very lucky [it was not worse].”
Powell was part of New Zealand’s bronze-medal winning team at the London 2012 Olympic Games, riding the popular Lenamore. They made their Olympic debut at Beijing in 2008.
Of her injury, Powell said: “It is now in a boot and I am a little bit mobile. It is mending really well.”
She joked to H&H that her main challenge was how to carry a cup of coffee while on crutches.
