“Horses saved my life. I have heard that same thing from many horse lovers.”
The above video is from a TEDx talk at Gull Lake in Michigan by Equine Assisted Coach Sara Sherman.
One of the most remarkable parts of working with horses, she says, is they know when you’re lying to yourself.
“The beauty of the lies they uncover is that they are lies of self-limitation. They are lies of self-harm. They are labels, judgments, and negative thoughts we place on ourselves.”
On the day of the TEDx event her horse Lancelot was in attendance.
“After my presentation was complete I invited the audience to step outside and meet him, in silence. To feel his invitation to them. There were many tears,” she says.
Sherman founded Discovery Horse as a way to help adults and children discover their Inner AWEsome (personal power)!
She has worked in the horse industry for many years in many capacities including certification as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor, and training with the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association. Sherman currently practices the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method founded by Melisa Pearce. She believes the EGC method is gateway to everyone’s Inner AWEsome!
TED is a nonprofit organisation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.
TEDx events are independently run and help share ideas in communities around the world.
