Four vehicle have collided with two horses on a busy British road, killing the animals and hospitalising four people.
Surrey Police said the accident occurred around 3.40am on Wednesday in the southband lane of the A3 road at Esher.
Four vehicles – a BMW, a Vauxhall Zafira, a Citroen van and a BMW motorcycle transporting blood – struck two horses at the scene.
Police said four people were taken to St Georges Hospital with serious injuries. Two other people were treated for minor injuries. The two horses died at the scene.
Officers made inquiries to identify the recipient of the blood being carried by the motorcyclist and were able to deliver it successfully to Frimley Park Hospital.
The northbound lane was closed for more than five hours; the southbound lane even longer.
