NZ’s Tim Price leads Tattersalls Horse Trials entries

Defending champion Tim Price is among a record number of entries for this year’s Tattersalls International Horse Trials in Ireland, which get under way this week just north of Dublin.

Price, who won last year on Wesko, will ride The Court Jester in the feature CIC3* class, the George Mernagh Memorial, is joined by some of the world’s best eventers, including eight of the top 13 world-ranked riders; William Fox-Pitt (GB), Jonelle Price (NZ), Oliver Townend (GB), Andrew Nicholson (NZ), Sam Griffiths (AUS), Bruce Davidson (USA) and Paul Tapner (AUS). Riders from Brazil are also competing at Tattersalls for the first time.

Entries are at an all-time record for the 10th renewal of Tattersalls, with 364 riders from 12 nations representing an increase of 9% from 2014. Entries in both The Irish Field CCI3* and the George Mernagh Memorial CIC3* are up significantly on last year and the new Cooley Farm CCI*YH class has attracted 74 world-class entries in the first year of running.

As well as Price, who was recently second at the 4* Rolex Kentucky Three-Day-Event with Wesko, New Zealand has several other riders in the main class, including Jonelle Price on Faerie Dianimo, Lizzie Brown with Henton Attorney General and Princeton, Megan Heath and St Daniel, Jonathan Paget and Shady Grey, Blyth Tait and Xanthus III, and Mark Todd on NZB Campino.

Tim Price also has two starters in the CCI3*, Xavier Faer and Bango. He is joined by Daniel Jocelyn (Phoenix L), Andrew Nicholson (Ulises and Jet Set), Jonathan Paget (Clifton Signature), and Blyth Tait (Bear Necessity V).

Tattersalls International Horse Trials & Country Fair, in association with Horse Sport Ireland, takes place from Wednesday May 27 to Sunday May 31. The event starts at 9am and will finish at about 5.30pm daily.

The event is 10 minutes from the M50 just off the M3, 2km from Ratoath, Co. Meath (opposite Fairyhouse Racecourse).
