Mark your calendars: the dates for the 2016 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event have been announced with the famous US four-star event straddling April and May next year.

Tickets for the event at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington from April 28 to May 1 will be on sale from November 2.

One of only six four-star three-day events in the world, “Rolex Kentucky”, presented by Land Rover, is the only one held in the Western Hemisphere. It is a part of the FEI Classics Series, which unites the top four-star eventing competitions from around the world. It also gives competitors a shot at the $350,000 Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing, which is awarded to any rider who wins the Rolex Kentucky, Mitsubishi Motors Badminton and Land Rover Burghley Four-Star Events in succession.

Olympic gold medalist and former World Champion Michael Jung won this year’s Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event aboard the 10-year-old bay mare Fischerrocana FST, securing the top prize money of $100,000 and the coveted Rolex watch. Jung, from Germany, also took third place aboard his second horse, La Biosthetique Sam FBW behind second-placed New Zealand combination Tim Price and Wesko. Just last weekend William Fox-Pitt won Badminton on Chilli Morning, making the rider now the live contender for the Rolex Grand Slam.

More than 75,000 spectators attended the 2015 competition.

The RK3DE is run by Equestrian Events, Inc. a non-profit charitable Kentucky corporation that was established initially to produce the 1978 World Three-Day Event Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park. It subsequently established an annual event that evolved into the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event.
