Italian eventer dies in cross-country fall

The Italian Equestrian Federation has reported that eventing rider Sabrina Manganaro died from injuries sustained in a fall during the cross-country phase of an event near Turin in Italy, at the weekend.

Manganaro, 25, fell from Fante di Mezzograno in a pre-novice event in San Giorgio Canavese on April 12. It was reported in Italian media that when the horse scrambled to get up, he kicked Manganaro. Medical personnel were unable to resuscitate her.

According to reports, Fante di Mezzograno was not injured in the fall.

Italian Equestrian Federation (FISE) President Vittorio Orlandi expressed his sympathy to Manganaro’s family on behalf of the federation.

Manganaro was originally from di Lomate Pozzolo (Varese).

The competition was cancelled after the accident, which local police are investigating.
