Mammoth task as Miami readies for oceanside showjumping

The countdown is on for oceanside showjumping, when the Longines Global Champions Tour hits Miami Beach for the first time early next month.

With the ocean just metres away, the very best show jumpers from across the world will compete for for $879,000 in prizes across five 5* classes, including the world-renowned Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix and the prestigious American Invitational. The stars will be joined by up-and-coming talent competing for top honours in the 2* classes and $121,500 in prizes.

Spectators will have free access to seating around the arena, on a first come, first served basis during the three days of competition, from April 2 to 4. The show will host five 5* classes and visitors will have access to a selection of shopping in the Prestige Village.

Organisers will spend nine days setting up the beachfront event, with stabling for 220 horses created along with a warmup arena and the main competition area, which will have 1000 tonnes of arena surface material brought in. The horses will have 1900 bales of wood shavings, and eight tonnes of feed will be brought in, along with 10 tonnes of hay.

The Longines GCT debut, coincides with Miami Beach’s Centennial celebrations, which includes a calendar of art, fashion and music events that make Miami Beach one of the world’s most exciting destinations.
