Since they were first recognized as a breed in 1700s, about three million thoroughbred horses have been born. During that time, Polar Foxx is believed to be one of only 13 white Thoroughbreds offered for public auction worldwide since 1999, and just the third white filly.
In the past 20 years, fillies sold at auction include a filly named The Opera House, who brought for $280,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions Sale in Australia.
Another filly named Silver Mystique sold as a weanling at the Keeneland November Sale in 1999 for $85,000. Of the known white Thoroughbred fillies running worldwide, the most successful runner is probably Yukichan, a white filly who raced in Japan. Yukichan was a multiple G2 stakes winner and earned over $1.1 million.
Several white thoroughbred colts have sold in North American sales recently, including Arctic Bright, who sold at Keeneland November in 2007 for $80,000, as well as a son of Thunder Gulch and Spot of Beauty who fetched $29,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton October auction. Another famous white thoroughbred is Arctic Bright View, who was purchased by Disney Films and starred as the iconic horse Silver in the 2013 film ‘The Lone Ranger’ starring Johnny Depp.
