Coyotes kill police horse in Michigan

Coyotes have killed an off-duty police horse in Michigan while it was eating its dinner.

According to a report on the Facebook page of the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Mounted Unit, the attack occurred around 3pm on Sunday.

The mare was on the property of its rider, on the border of Lapeer and Oakland counties in the area of East Oakwood and Hosner Road.

The attack occurred as the horse was eating its grain ration.

The pack managed to drag the horse to the ground. They were scared off when challenged by the owner’s dogs, who were alerted by the commotion.

The horse was near the barn on the property, and just 150 feet from the house. Coyotes tend to stay away from buildings and hunt more at night.

The MO is more that of feral dogs than coyotes.
