Police in Wales have arrested two youths in connection with an attack on a donkey in which the animal received 16 puncture wounds.
Cheeky suffered the wounds to both hind legs, her abdomen and neck at Greenmeadow Community Farm, Cwmbran, overnight on November 28.
Gwent Police confirmed on Christmas eve that officers had arrested two 17-year-old males from the Cwmbran area over the attack. The pair have been bailed pending phone and forensic examinations.
Cheeky, 22, who, according to reports had been scheduled to appear in Greenmeadow farm’s Christmas nativity event, is continuing to recover from her wounds.
While some of the wounds were superficial, others required stitches.
The attack occurred when Cheeky, a long-time resident of the farm, was in the stable block with two other donkeys, who were uninjured.
