Members of the sales team of feed manufacturer Spillers have raised more than £1000 for Redwings Horse Sanctuary and Cancer Research UK in a charity walk.

The team of six took part in the Thames Path 50km Challenge last month, walking from Putney Bridge, London, to Runnymead in 11 hours.

The team comprised Spillers Professional Sales Manager Alexandra Ashley, Vanessa Macdonald, Nicki Grennan, Laura Meszaros, Rebecca Spencer and James Cassells, who work for Mars Horsecare.

“It was quite a challenge as most of us hadn’t done anything like this before’” Ashley said. “We unavoidably slowed down for the last 10km when our legs didn’t want to move anymore and our feet were covered in blisters but we all managed to complete the walk!”

The team’s target is to raise £1500 for Redwings and Cancer Research UK.  “So far we have raised just over £1000 through sponsorship, raffling Mars Hampers of products kindly donated by other Mars brands and selling cakes. We are confident we will achieve our target by the time the rest of the sponsorship money is collected.”

The Thames path Challenge is run over two days. Participants can walk, jog or run 25km, 50km or 100km along the Thames footpath. The event has raised £2 million for charity this year.

Sponsorship for the Spillers team is still open, at justgiving.com/teams/SPILLERS.
