The Brooke Hospital for Animals celebrates World Animal Day today with a look at how horses and donkeys are often much more than pets and companions to people.

"When looking at the reasons why these sorts of accidents happen, riders, owners, trainers, will often report that 70 percent of these accidents are due to behaviour and training of the horse rather than due to their own competence."

Animals in the western world are often much loved pets who are adored, and in return are wonderful companions. But in third-world countries where the Brooke works, horses and donkeys and mules are also loved, but they fill the important role of breadwinner.

Often families would not be able to earn a living without their faithful equine companions.

The Brooke says: “This video is for all the animals, all over the world.”
