A Nevada motorcyclist is dead after being thrown into the path of oncoming traffic following a highway collision with a wild horse.

The accident happened on Wednesday at 8.25pm on US 50 in Lyon County at mile marker 25, just west of Rocky Road.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said the motorcyclist was riding his 2007 Harley Davidson in the westbound lane when he collided with the horse.

The impact threw him into the eastbound lane on the unlit stretch of highway, where he was struck by the three vehicles moments later. None of them reportedly saw the accident which threw the motorcyclist into their path.

The drivers of all three vehicles stopped to provide assistance, but the man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the drivers of the vehicles involved were cooperating with the law enforcement investigation.

The wild horse was injured in the impact and was euthanized at the scene.

The highway patrol is appealing for witnesses. Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating. Those with information are asked to contact him at (775) 689-4623 or dhildebrand@dps.state.nv.us. The case number is NHP- 1410000820.
