Irish rider leads Ballindenisk 3* horse trials

Irish rider Joseph Murphy took the lead in the main CCI three star class at Ballindenisk’s International Horse Trials in Co. Cork on Saturday, after going clear on the cross-country aboard his own Ricardo Z Irish Sport Horse gelding Sportsfield Othello.

The Mullingar-born eventer held his dressage score of 50.8, with his nearest challenger, Britain’s Izzy Taylor and Thistledown Poposki, on a penalty score of 53.2.

Britain’s Oliver Townend, who was bidding for the Goresbridge Go For Gold €50,000 bonus on the Master Imp Irish Sport Horse Imperial Master saw his hopes dashed on the cross country when he was eliminated.

Carlow’s Sam Watson leads the CCI2* class with the Puissance-sired Irish Sport Horse gelding Imperial Sky.

In the CIC2*, New Zealand’s Jonelle Richards and Aloha retained their dressage lead after the cross-country. The previous day the combination scored a 10 from one of the judges.
