Dutch team horse Telstar collapsed and died following a clear cross-country round at the Houghton Hall Nations Cup eventing leg in Britain at the weekend.

Owned and ridden by Raf Kooremans, the 17-year-old gelding collapsed and died shortly after his round, in which he had a few time penalties in the CICO*** competition in Norfolk.

Houghton Hall organisers said: “The horse was experienced and had been jumping well. A post mortem will follow.”

Kooremans has ridden the Belgian Warmblood gelding since 2003, and their last FEI win was in 2009 in the CIC2* at Minderhout.

The Belgian-bred Telstar was bred by Paul Malisary, and was by Skippy II, and from the Lord Gotthard mare Elise.
