Seventeen-year-old British showjumper Ella Pallister has died after sustaining injuries in a fall at a competition in Dorset on Sunday.

Ella fell from her horse in the warm-up arena during a British Showjumping affiliated show at Kingston Maurward, and was taken to Dorchester Hospital prior to being taken by Air Ambulance to Southampton Hospital.

She died in hospital on Wednesday.

It is believed she fell from Cocoon II when the horse refused a jump. She was then kicked in the head, causing severe head injuries.

Her parents, Ted and Karen Pallister, told the Dorset Echo: “Ella was our shining star. All she has ever wanted was to ride her ponies and win her competitions in the fastest time possible! There is so much more to say but at the moment our loss is too great to put into words.”

Ella was a Year 13 A-level student at Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester, and was also studying for a BTEC at Kingston Maurward College.

Dorset Police said they are not investigating the death.
