Ginny Elliot bows out of Irish eventing role

Ireland’s Eventing High Performance Manager Ginny Elliot is no longer in the running to carry on the role after her contact expired at the end of last year.

Horse Sport Ireland’s board decided in November to advertise the High Performance Manager roles, including that of Showjumping Team Manager, as a new Olympic cycle began. Elliot. who was eventing’s high performance manager from 2008 to December 31, 2012, applied for the position, but later withdrew her application.

An HSI spokesman said Elliot had done an excellent job for the country’s eventing team.

“We would like to thank Ginny for her efforts over the past four years. Ginny is a person of the highest integrity who has had great success in the sport. We would like to wish her well with her new ventures.

“The process to appoint a new Eventing High Performance Manager is at an advanced stage and we fully expect to be in a position to recommend a candidate for the post at the Horse Sport Ireland Board meeting at the end of January,” the spokesman said.

Elliot, formerly Leng (neè Holgate), won Olympic individual eventing bronze in 1984 and 1988, and team silver in 1984 and 1988.  Born in Malta, Elliot was also World Champion in 1986, and European Champion in 1985, 1987, and 1989.
