Showjumper Robert Whitaker has been fined £2,500 and suspended from the British Showjumping Association for six months following an incident at the Horse of the Year show in 2012.
The British Showjumping Association (BSA) said Whitaker was found to have kicked a security guard at the show in Birmingham on October 3, “contrary to Rules 82.1 and 82.11”.
Stewards decided the penalties, which included the fine of £2500 payable within 28 days, a severe reprimand and a caution as to his future behaviour, and suspension of rights and privileges of membership of the BSA for sixmonths.
“The suspension is to be suspended for a period of 12 months on the proviso that if during this 12 month period from 14 December 2012 any contravention of Rule 82 would invoke the suspended suspension.”
No other details of the incident were revealed.
Whitaker, 29, is the son of John Whitaker and nephew of Michael Whitaker. He is ranked 68th in the world and is among Britain’s top 10 showjumpers.
