Irish eventing rider Trish Ryan secured the top-priced horse at this week’s Goresbridge Go For Gold sale with a bid of €48,000.

Ryan purchased Tomgar Rembrandt, a six-year-old  3/4 thoroughbred and 1/4 Irish Draught gelding, bred by John Keane and owned by Dermot McGuire, in the sale on Wednesday night. Tomgar Rembrandt won the pre-novice at Ballindenisk on his debut appearance this year, and was third in his first outing at CNC* level.

Tomgar Rembrandt was the last horse – the 76th lot – to go under the hammer in the sale at The Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey. The auction followed the showing of horses in Barnadown.

The sale proved a huge success, with a clearance rate of over 61 per cent, and the average price for the 4, 5 and 6 year olds was €18,000 and for the 3 year olds was €10,800. Horses were sold to several countries including Canada, USA, Italy, Switzerland, Great Britain and Germany.

“Ireland is the place to come if you want to buy an eventer and I want to wish all the purchasers the best of luck with their horses,”  said Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Joe Walsh.

“The Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale has once again been a great success. The professionalism, attention to detail and hard work of the Gorsebridge team and the team at Barnadown has once again given a great lift to the Irish Sport Horse Sector.”
