Ireland’s Denis Lynch in late bid to get to Games

Irish showjumper Denis Lynch should know on Saturday whether his legal challenge to compete in the Olympics is successful.

Lynch has filed a case with with the world’s highest court for sporting disputes, the¬†Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The ad hoc division of the court confirmed on Friday – the day of the London Games opening ceremony – that Lynch had filed an application.

He is challenging a decision of the Monitoring Committee of Horse Sport Ireland Ltd not to select him for the Games.

“The procedure is in progress and a panel is expected to hear the case and render a decision on 28 July 2012,” the court said.

The CAS said it would not comment any further on the procedure in the meantime.
