Horsetalk revamp goes live

Welcome to the new-look Horsetalk! It has been more than a year in the making, as the Horsetalk team dealt with a raft of issues in getting the site on to a new platform.

It was an also an opportunity to drop some little-used sections and features, and introduce several new ones, in particular giving readers the opportunity to comment on individual stories.

We faced two major issues in bringing together our new look.

The first was finding a platform and look that offered the versatility and stability a site of this size requires. That was no easy task.

The second issue was ensuring that the tens of thousands of existing indexed pages stayed live and remained on their original page addresses (URLs), ensuring they could still be accessed.

This has been achieved, although this content will load on a “lite” version of the page.

Importantly, it also places the site under a content management system. This means we no longer have to rely on wheeling our webmaster, Robin Marshall, to her computer seven days a week to perform our daily updates.

Even the guy who empties the rubbish bins – that’s me – can do it!

Horsetalk is still very much work in progress and we will be fine-tuning and adding more features over the next couple of months.

We hope you enjoy it.
