Canadian eventing horse Jack’s Irish Z died at the weekend following an injury sustained on the cross-country at a winter horse trials event in Ocala, Florida.

Jack’s Irish Z landed after the second to last fence on the intermediate course and was unable to bear weight on one of his legs. As a result of his injuries he had to be humanely euthanized.

Rider Katlyn Hewson, of Ontario, who dismounted from the horse when she realised something was amiss, was not injured in the incident.

Jack’s Irish Z was an eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding owned by Katlyn, Chuck and Sue Hewson and partner Karl Slezak. He had been imported to Canada in 2008.
