German event rider killed in horse trials fall

German event rider Tina Richter-Vietor was killed on Saturday after being thrown from her horse during the Cross Country phase of CIC 2* Schenefeld, Germany. She was aged 32.

She was riding Paulchen Panther.

Tina Richter-Vietor was a highly experienced and well-known rider. She had been a double bronze medallist at the European Eventing Championship for Young Riders; two weeks ago she won the German national Eventing title with the regional team of Weser-Ems.

The FEI said the technical specifications of the course were within the dimensions stated in the rules.

The causes of this accident are being investigated by the FEI Safety Sub-Committee.

One jumping competition took place after the accident, before the rest of the event was cancelled.
