French rider Amelie Cohen suffered a fatal accident at a national competition in France, at Fontainebleau, on Sunday.

Cohen, 30, fell at the seventh jump on the cross-country course. The course’s height limit was 3ft 7.5in.

A French Equestrian Federation spokesman told Britain’s Horse & Hound magazine: “The fence in question was not difficult, but the horse somersaulted and landed on top of Amelie. It was one of those very tragic accidents.”
