Warmblood Foal Registration Process
September, 2004
As a service to you as a breeder, the Committee has decided that since it is coming up to a new breeding season, it is an opportune time to remind you about the processes involved in breeding a Warmblood foal that can be fully registered with the NZ Warmblood Assn.
- the Stallion must be licensed with the association
- the mare should be a classified mare of Thoroughbred, arab or anglo arab breeding
with a traceable 4 generation pedigree.
- progeny from registered Hanoverian, Trakehner, Holsteiner, Oldenburger mares by TB stallions (providing that prior approval is sought), and approved overseas stallions through AI are also eligible. Apply for a Registration form from the Registrar or download from the website.
- Special approval needs to be obtained to register foals out of registered Warmblood , Hanoverian or Trakehner mares by unlicensed stallions.
- if not a classified or other breed of mare, then the foal can still be registered but it cannot go further into the Main mare studbook. Ask the Registrar for a Registration form.
- the foal can be registered in the Non Stud Book if it has 25% warmblood breeding
and there is documentation to prove the mating. These foals are in the Identifiable Register and remain as Foundation progeny only.
- the Stallion owner or agent will give you a Certificate of Service when the mare
has a positive pregnancy test. Insist on getting this before removing your mare from the Stud - ideally you should have paid your Stud fee though.
THIS IS A VERY VALUABLE PIECE OF PAPER - KEEP IT SAFE
- once the foal is born, fill in the bottom half of the Certificate of Service with the
details of the resulting foal, then return to the Administration Officer along with the fee of $25.00
- insist on a Stud Contract, read it carefully, understand all the conditions affecting both parties and sign it before taking your mare to stud.
If you are unsure, call the Administration Officer for a list of stallions or check the Website before committing yourself to any contract.
Ideally, foals should be branded while still on the mare - the branding slip will be sent to you after the Registrar processes the Foal return form. Get the vet to sign this after the foal is branded - send it back again to the Registrar and the registration card will be produced.
We trust that this clears up any grey areas and uncertainties about breeding your mare and registering your foal. Good luck for the season.
Remember, our registrar this season is Wendy Beaven, Range View Stud, 495 Finlays Rd RD5, Christchurch 7675

Sincerely,
Robin Potter, Administration Officer
