Manuka Sport Horses - Swedish Warmblood NZ update

Manuka Sport Horses' Manuka Modin (at age 2½ months).

Lisa Blackbourne's foal, Prestige VDL/Flemmingh.

Kariori Sporthorses

Jody Hartstone and her latest import – Hanoverian licensed stallion - Whisper (Weltmeyer/ Feiner Stern/ Pik Bube)

Molly (Volanti) and Maquita, owned by Deb Crawford.
MSH has had a very successful breeding season for the 2009/2010 period, with our Stallion Moschinno (Gibraltar II / India II) producing three beautiful foals – 2 x colts and 1 x filly. All three were conceived by embryo transfer using one of our two wonderful full blood Swedish Warmblood mares, Madiera (Lohengrin / Maniara).

Moschinno has also produced some exceptional progeny out of thoroughbred mares. These young horses are just now out in competition (eventing and dressage) and look highly promising.

Moschinno is producing talented young horses with very trainable temperaments, excellent confirmation and wonderful athletic ability.

MSH uses a small number of international quality mares with proven bloodlines.

Prestige Sporthorses

Just an update on Lisa Blackbourne's foal, Prestige VDL/Flemmingh (so very Dutch).

Dean Hewetson is the mare owner. Dean purchased the mare in Oz at "Auction with the Stars" some years ago.

KM Performance Ponies

Sarah Wadworth and Buckton Dominoff have taken the NZ Pony Champion title.

Competing at the Stellar International NZ Pony & Young Rider Championships on 9\10 January in Taupo, Sarah proved too strong for the rest of the pony field.

She was also the highest competing pony rider, at Level 5 (Open Medium).

The scores were enough to give her the Young Rider overall win, along with the impressive Hyland Trophy, awarded annually to the NZ Pony Champion.

From Deb Crawford - Molly (Volanti) and Maquita.

At the North Island All Breeds Show in early January, Molly won foal classes in Saddle Hunter, Warmblood and Sporthorse, Jnr Champ Saddle Hunter and Jnr Champ Warmblood.

Maquita won Broodmare classes in Saddle Hunter, Warmblood, Sporthorse, and Part bred Arab, Champ Snr Saddle Hunter, Supreme Saddle Hunter, and Supreme Broodmare.

Molly is by Voltaire II from Maquita (Magistad) and the breeder is Rowan Dixon – editor of H & P.

LC Horse Farm

Lindberg Des Hayettes and his progeny are off to a great start for the New Year.

R Mister Berg LC started the new year in fine style by taking home the North Island 5-year-olds Championship in Dannevirke, 8-10 January.

R Mister Berg LC (Lindberg Des Hayettes – Miss Brunei) and Kyle Timm taking home the North Island Championship for 5-year-olds.
R Miser Berg LC has competed successfully in the Astek 5-year-old series and winning the North Island Championship title brought him up to 1st place on the series score board.

Rider Kyle Timm says he is very pleased with the up-and-coming Lindberg youngsters: "It is a real treat to work with the Lindberg offspring as they all seem to have the same agility, temperament and impeccable technique as their Sire. I'm already looking forward to next season as 4-year-olds by Lindberg are already showing off their talent. Riviere Rouge LC was elected Champion 4-year-old Sport Horse at Auckland Manukau 2* and Rodeo Drive LC finished 3rd in the same event."

Over in Europe Lindberg Des Hayettes is back from his Christmas break at stud. CSI 4* Basel in Switzerland 14-17 January saw him produce an 'all clear' first show of the year as well as landing a 5th place in the 1.45 m Preis der LGT. From Switzerland, Sam and her team headed straight to Holland for the CSI 4* Amsterdam where Lindberg placed 8th in the 1.45m Provincie Noord-Holland Prijs, Accumulator with 2 Jokers, against the clock.

Lindberg Des Hayettes produced an 'all clear' first show of the year at CSI4* Basel in Switzerland and the following week-end he placed 8th in the 1.45m Accumulator at CSI4* Amsterdam, Holland.

Meanwhile home at LC Horse Farm in Clevedon the foaling is now over for the season with the arrival of 3 new additions to the Lindberg clan.

Manawai - 2010 colt (Lindberg Des Hayettes – Manawai xx) – full brother to Rodeo Drive LC, 3rd place, 4-year-old Sport Horse, Auckland Manukau 2*, 14-15 November 2009

Muchacha - 2010 coolt (Lindberg Des Hayettes – Muchacha xx). Full brother to Schweppes LC, first season sire, LC Horse Farm.

Astek Stud

Following on from our Astek Stud progeny report in the last NZWHA newsletter, Kinnordy Gym Bello's oldest progeny (now 5 years old) are continuing to go from strength to strength in nationwide competition including:

Astek Gymnast (5yo gelding by Gym Bello / Falkensee).
In December 2009 at the Auckland Manukau Festival, owner/rider Victoria Wall and Astek Gymnast were crowned the Overall Level 2 Dressage Champions, won the Level 2 Musical Freestyle and also won the Dudley Memorial Trophy for Overall Champion 4, 5 & 6 yo Young Dressage Horse. An outstanding day amidst tough competition!

Previously in October, Gymnast convincingly won his first start at Level 3 (Elementary) dressage with a 70%+ score. This was his first competition start since March 2009 HOY.

With another Level 2 Musical Freestyle win to his belt at Waikato, Astek Gymnast is currently leading the North Island Level 2 Zilco Musical Leader board (as of December 28th).

To add to their success, a lovely photo of Gymnast competing has recently been selected to feature on the cover of the Bates National Dressage Championships programme – with the Astek Stud brand easily recognizable!

Vic and Astek Gymnast are obviously going to be an exciting combination to keep an eye on as they move up the grades! We wish them every success for the coming months.

Rosari Ghiotto (5yo mare by Gym Bello / Master).
In November 2009 at the NZWHA Championship Show, this beautiful moving and very well conformed 5yo mare was crowned the overall Supreme Champion Led as well as the Supreme Premier Mare / Filly.

This very same dual champion achievement was taken out in 2006 by the then 2yo filly Astek Gianni (Gym Bello/Spectacular Love) - providing a great accolade to the way Gym Bello is consistently breeding quality from different types of mares.

Following on from her success as a 4yo where she was 4th Overall Level 1 Dressage Horse HOY 09 and 3rd Rising Star Saddle Hunter HOY 09, "Rosari Ghiotto” has been competing in Level 2 dressage with scores consistently over 69% and qualification for the National Young Dressage Horse classes.

Produced to this point by owner/rider Janelle Sangster-Ward, Rosari Ghiotto has just recently been sold to a wonderful new home in Rotorua – we look forward to following her progress.

Astek Gianni (5yo mare by Gym Bello / Spectacular Love).
Astek Gianni has recently made her showjumping debut with Diana, with her first official start at the Taupo Christmas Classic in December 09 where they competed in the 1m classes.

Gianni is continuing to mature into a very eye-catching, sporty type and jumped with excellent form throughout the 4 day show. She shows exciting promise and scope for the future.

Ramirez's progeny news:

Rackateer (Gelding by Ramirez / Falkensee)
Handsome grey gelding Rackateer has really stepped up a gear this 2009/10 season in the showjumping arena with young owner/rider Katie Cox of Christchurch.

In Timaru, October 2009, Katie and Rackateer won the Young Rider class ahead of a field of very competitive young riders and also placed 2nd in 1* Grand Prix.

At the Canterbury Labour Weekend Showjumping Carnival they had another great round placing 2nd in the Young Rider class. Great to see this pair successfully making their way up the grades together.

Roulette with owner/rider Janelle Sangster-Ward
Roulette SW (Mare by Ramirez / TB)
Beautiful mare Roulette is now competing in her first season at Level 6/7 with owner/rider Janelle Sangster-Ward. At the recent Canterbury Dressage Championships the pair finished 2nd in the Inter 1 and 3rd in the PSG. They also won the Vetpro Challenge classes in both Marlborough and Nelson.

Roulette is currently lying 3rd in the SI Vetpro Level 6/7 Challenge series and 4th in the Zilco Musical Series.

Retrospect II (8yo Gelding by Ramirez / TB)
Scopey showjumper Retrospect II finished off the 2008/09 season very well, his wins and placings throughout the season earning him 4th place overall in the National 7 YO Showjumping Series (up to 1.40m). Ridden by Greg Jamieson and owned in partnership with Bruce and Carolyn Mincham, Retrospect II also made his first 1* Grand Prix starts towards the end of last season where from just a handful of starts he was placed 4th in the South Island Champs 1* Grand Prix and also jumped clear in both the North Island Champs 1* Grand Prix and NZ National Champs 1* Grand Prix. Retrospect has had a quieter start to the 2009/10 season following a minor paddock injury in the spring, however, recently came back to full competition fitness jumping in very good form in the 1* Grand Prix at Waikato.

Voltaire II’s progeny news:

It was thrilling news to hear that well known New Zealand horse Vancouver by Voltaire II won the $25,000 Puissance Class at the Washington International Horse Show with rider McLain Ward, jumping the impressive height of 2.01m (6'7").

Vancouver was competed in NZ by Britta Pederson at Advanced Eventing before he then went to Oliver Edgecombe where he performed with much success winning the NZ World Cup Showjumping Series and also the 2007 HOY Puissance. He was sold for a record price for a New Zealand showjumper when he went to the USA.

Very exciting to hear this exceptionally talented horse is continuing to perform with distinction against some of the world’s top showjumping horses!

Exported son Vettori by Voltaire II has won the challenging Adelaide International CCI 4* event held in Australia November 13th - 15th 2009. The technical and demanding cross-country course proved to be a tough track amidst an early Australian heat wave of temperatures hovering around 40 degrees. Olympic Gold Medalist Stuart Tinney and Vettori jumped a clear showjumping round to finish on a score of 65.8, crowning them the overall Advanced Champions.

Ridden by John Cottle, Lilly Vuitton has been performing very well in the showjumping arena recently, winning the 7yo class at Woodhill 2* in November and also the 1.25m class at Waikato 1* in December.
