Profile - Leigh Stevenson
I started riding at the age of 8 and got my first pony when I was ten. I was originally involved in eventing and completed the Taupo 3DE CCI* in 1999 on Capability Brown II with a double clear for a placing in the top 15. At the time I was working for Vicki Larsen at Peak Lodge, riding her horses and also the ones that came in for schooling etc.
The season after that I stumbled across a JK mare and decided to get into
dressage. I still train with Vicki, and also Edgar Lichtwark when he comes over from Australia. I now have two trakehners by the stallion Falkensee, one at medium level (about to go open medium hopefully), and one that I am about to take out at elementary level.
I also have a filly by Falkensee out of one of my ex eventing thoroughbred mares who I hope will be a superstar later! My parents are also involved in the equestrian industry via Goodwood Horsecovers which they bought in
2000 and my father is on the committee for Waitemata horse trials. I now work for Team McMillan BMW & Mini in accounts to try and support my riding habit, and hope to continue through the dressage levels as well as continuing the breeding programme my parents and I have started.
