Each licensed stallion is listed with three generations of ancestors. They are itemised per mare line where the licensing and stallion performance test champions, and National Young Horse Champions are specifically displayed, if applicable. Exceptional sport horses are pointed out. In addition, each field of discipline is shown in order to provide a reference to further literature.
This book is a reference guide and represents an absolute must for the people who busy themselves with the genetic connections to the Hanoverian breed and expands the meaning of the mare lines for those who wish to deal with the subject.
Both books can be found at the Asmussen website. Click on "zum Shop."
This event is open to 4 and 5 year olds and aims to find the eventing stars of the future. The Judges on the day were Judy Alderdice (dressage), Merran Hain (jumping), Kevin Cholmondley-Smith (conformation) and Sally Clarke. Judges look for an athletic, loose moving horse with a promising jumping technique, which with correct training, should make a good three-day eventer.
The components are judged as follows:
McDreamy (Dream Boy/Devon/Dynamit) is the first Hanoverian raffle foal donated by Shelley Williams from Dream Boy – out of Debbie Smith's wonderful broodmare Devon; owned by Kellie Hamlett-Coombs and bred by Tracey Jarman. Kellie has had a wonderful season with this horse finishing 6th at Nationals and 7th at Horse of the Year in Level 2. She achieved a Bronze Dressage NZ Achievement award (see May Bulletin) and won the North Island section of the Kiwi Span Rider Awards with 196 points, won Section 2 and was second overall in the entire lineup. Great effort! Kellie was also one of the winners of the NZWHA Training Incentive Awards, so no doubt she'll be putting that grant to good use!
Designz TP (Dream Boy/Design/Distelfink) – our own Robin Potter bred, raised, trained and rode this horse to win the Level 1 Dressage Waitemata Accumulator for the season, was 5th overall in Section 1 of the Kiwi Span Awards and 6th for Waitemata area. Another great effort!
Other Waitemata horses to have performed well are the two full Anamour siblings from Tina Thorowgood's Winterkoenig mare – Winterglocke. Anaheim II with Sharlene Royal placed very well at the Nationals and Horse of the Year, won the Section 4 Kiwi Span Awards and was third for Waitemata. Whilst Spirit BC from a Wohler II mare won the Waitemata Level 2 Accumulator for Chris Beach.
Ananique with Chelsea Thom won the Waitemata section of the Fibre Fresh Young Rider Awards as well as being 2nd overall in Section 4 of those same awards. She represented Waitemata Rodney in the successful Pony Club Championships Dressage team. And also won The Woodhill Sands Dressage Scholarship for 2008.
Leo Dreams of Gold (Dream Boy/Golden Legacy xx) was bred by Julia Fraser. This horse performed very well at Nationals in the Musical freestyle and was overall 4th in Level 4. He was 11th in Section 4 of Kiwi Span and 8th in the Waitemata area.
The well celebrated Dream World MH (Dream Boy/Welkantje/Weltmeyer) from Matthews Hanoverians with rider Casey Johnson was 3rd in the Kiwi Span Section 4, 2nd overall Zilco Level 4 and 5th in the Medium Challenge Accumulator as well as Reserve Champion at Horse of the Year (amongst a myriad of other champions and reserves for the season). She was also
Senior Performance Horse Champion at Horse of the Year with an outstanding display of movement for the Judges. There is a very good picture of her in full flight in The June Bulletin article describing how important it is to be able to show such movement off in order to do well in these classes.
Agnes Irwin came 5th in Kiwispan Level 2 and overall 1st for Southland with the Rhiannon Armistead bred Glamorgan Rhythm'n'Blues (Glamorgan Gold). Knavish Trick (Gruenhorn du Trichon/Le Fripon xx) performed well all season for Liz Hutson overall 2nd in the Challenge final lineup for level 5. And of course Donnerheim (Donnerheist/Rocadero) was almost unbeatable for Emma Malcolm throughout the season.
Other Zilco success stories are Geldof MH (Gynmastik Star) bred by Matthews Hanoverians and owned/ridden by Sarah Jane Matheson was 1st in Level 2, plus 2nd in the
Level 2 Challenge accumulator, Reserve Champion at both Nationals and Horse of the Year and 2nd place in the 6 year old Young Dressage Horse class.
Aristoc (Anamour/Cinnamon/Witzbold) bred by Bilbar Lodge and owned/ridden by Sue Hobson was 1st in Level 3 and also 1st in the Level 3 Challenge Accumulator.
Trisha Lee and Volleyball SL (Voltaire II) have been consistent this year coming 3rd at HOY level 3, 2nd Zilco Musical Freestyle level 3, 3rd Riechenbach Challenge series level 3 and the latest is FibreFresh Young Rider Leader Board – she won Waikato outright, and won the level 3 and above nationally. Well done.
Weltstar (Worldwide PB) and Jacqui Thomson won Level 4,was 5th in the Level 4 Kiwispan awards and overall first for Wellington. JD Wainui (Weltmeyer) imp won Level 5 for Cassandra Dally while Veritas (Voltaire II/Crown Law xx) won Level 6/7. KH Arvan (Anamour/Dynamit) was 2nd for Vanessa Way and Kallista Field's Waikiwi (Weltmeyer/Jaguar) was 3rd. Abendstern (Anamour/Aberlou xx) was 4th for Charmian Pearson-White.
Kallista again took out the FEI level with Soda (Uraeus) with Jody Hartstone's stallion Landioso 3rd and All Black II (Anamour/Little Brown Jug xx) 4th for Charlott Bayliss.
Further news from other areas:
KH Ambrose (Anamour/Waitangi Wind/Winterkoenig) bred by John and Nicky
Magrath of Karaka Hills Sporthorses, and ridden by Abbie Deken. This horse has had a string of minor placings to the ever consistent Guisto MH all season through the lower North Island and at National level.
New comer Bardot MH (Brentano II/Welkantje/Weltmeyer) breeder Matthews
Hanoverians, is a force to be reckoned with according to her rider Casey Johnson. In her first show she scored high 70s!
Don Carlo (Dream Boy/Last Call xx/Blazing Keel xx) bred by Alison Lally and
owned by Kate Dodd started off in great form in his new South Island home by winning the Level 1 championship in Southland/Otago, Glamour Star (Gymnastik Star/Affaire d`Amour/Anamour) bred owned and ridden by Leanne Smith, made a big impression all season at many of the northern area shows and performed well at Nationals. They were 3rd in the 4
yr old Young Dressage Horse class.
Bates Antonello (Anamour/Flair/Winnebago) is the result of embryo transfer
from the beautiful FEI level mare Flair. He was bred by Louisa Hill's sister Ana. He has had limited outings but showed what a talent he has by being Reserve champion at Nationals and Champion at Horse of the Year.
Winter Acacia (Anamour/Arctic Oak xx/Oakville xx) bred by Judith Wear and owned/ridden by Laurel Cross had limited outings as well this season, but made a big impression each time. S he won the Advanced section of the FEI Challenge at McLeans Island, was placed 2nd at North Islands, 3rd at Nationals, won at the Canterbury Championships and was 2nd overall in the Advanced Accumulator.
Roulette SW (Ramirez) has had a successful all round season for Janelle Sangster – Ward and was 9th overall in Section 4 of the Kiwi Span awards and first for Marlborough area. Ascot Rose (Anamour) for Robyn Hirst was 7th in Section 3.
Other Challenge Series successes:
Level 1 – Guisto MH 1st and Leanne Smith's Glamour Star 5th – Both are by
Gymnastik Star.
Congratulations to all of the above. It's great to see so many Warmbloods out there competing and succeeding so well. Keep up the good work!
"My horse is Clifton Smint, who was originally Belmont Agio. I purchased him through Frances Stead about 6 years ago, and he is now 13. His sire was Gruenhorn du Trichon and his dam was a NZ TB mare. Smint is an attractive 16.2 hand flea-bitten grey gelding with an outstanding temperament, although he is also rather clever and has a wicked sense of humor! I got him primarily to do dressage and a little bit of eventing on. Due to a colic surgery followed by an injury and then health problems in my family, he was out of competition for several years, but he is now in very fine fettle and is competing in eventing with my trainer, Lisa Fishback. He is also teaching me to jump again after several years of sticking to flat work, and I will probably take him to a few dressage shows this summer as well as one or two baby events. I am more out of shape from the long pause than he is! With Lisa he has gotten 3 firsts and a 2nd in four outings at two schooling events and two recognized events, moving up a level each time. Prior to his layoff, he managed to take me to some nice performances and ribbons in recognized dressage events including a win with a 70% score of which I am rather proud. He can do better, but that's my lifetime best so far. Prior to his layoff we were getting ready to debut at 2nd level and are now starting the climb back up the ladder (me from scratch, he's well along the comeback trail). He hasn't set the world on fire, but that's not his fault. He has set my world on fire – he is the perfect horse for a busy amateur who needs just the right
amount of challenge! He constantly gets compliments and is the "teacher's pet" at my barn. He's a wonderful horse."
Mount View Sport Horses – Tauranga
Here at Mount View, we are preparing to enter our fourth season of competition and continue to progress the business to the best of our ability.
Our two main focuses are breeding and show jumping competition. This is an ambitious task with the high standards we have as a team.
We are also in the process of importing semen from young Holsteiner stallions that are showing promise in their competition careers. We will have semen available for the 2008/09 breeding season from three stallions: Carisco C (Caretino/Carthago), Cassander C (Cassini 1/Lord), Figaro (Eurocommerce Berlin/Spartan). We aim to increase this number for the 09/10 season. For more information on these stallions please contact kylie@mvsh.com.
Last year we bade farewell to our stallion Pico Bello, he is continuing his show jumping career with David Dobson in Western Australia. This has proven to be a very positive move for the horse, as at present he is leading the HOY series in Australia.
The focus for Mount View in last season's competition, was developing some of our young horses in their training and early stage of competition. We are very encouraged by the ability of these young horses.
Seremonie VDL, a big Holstein mare, finished last season on a very exciting note. She has enormous scope and has developed to a standard that will spring her into top-level competition this coming season.
Ike Unsworth, our manager/rider, is at present in German furthering his training under Dirk Ahlman. This is proving invaluable, and we keenly await his homecoming to see him apply what he has learned overseas. Needless to say, we are looking forward to an exciting 2008/09 season with two Grand Prix horses and a number of very talented young ones.
In conclusion we wish to thank the NZWHA once again for the Recognition Award for 2007/08 presented to us recently.

Nationals and Horse of the Year Dressage
AN OVERVIEW by Robin Potter
A special congratulations must go to Angela Fergusson on the lovely Monique III (pictured at right) for her amazing performance at Horse of the Year in the Grand Prix Kur after a good second in the Grand Prix on the previous day. This result was achieved in spite of difficulties with her music refusing to play the game. Well done to her breeder – our South Island Vice President - Heike McLean. This is an exciting combination for the future – maybe Kentucky in 2 years time...

The winner of the 4 Year Old Show Hunter Championship, which is sponsored by the Association, was the thoroughbred Itsacruz ridden by Caroline Parks. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am not able to report further on the show hunter classes.
This Association once again presented rosettes to the highest placed Warmbloods in each of the age group championship classes. These classes are run over 3 rounds (3 days) with
those on equality after the 3rd day jumping off against the clock. This is something that is only expected of the 4, 5 and 6 year olds on rare occasions.
The 4 year old winner of the rosette was La Orange, a strawberry roan gelding by Emillion (Wander by Panikau) bred by Bruce Holden and ridden by Anna Stephen. He finished 4th in the class, with Grand Gesture (Larkspur Connoisseur by Voltaire II/Maybe by Merlin) in 5th place.
The 5 year old rosette winner was Disney, a black gelding by Dream Boy (Hino/Drumocher) bred by Sarah Milne and ridden by Tessa Williams who also won the championship for 5 year olds. The 6 year old to take home the rosette was Cufflink (also the class winner) a bay mare by Leo Caylon (Off the Cuff/Haaji) bred by Kristie Thomas and ridden by Kim Best.
In the 7 year old class, Metropolitan a bay mare by Ramirez (Metro) bred by Russell Davey and ridden by Julie Hart were the rosette recipients and placed 2nd in the championship class.
A style prize is awarded in each age group. The 6 and 7 year old style prizes were
won by Warmbloods Dunstan Delphi and Alaric II respectively. Warmbloods in the Series Finals were placed as follows:
"The Judges were from Australia Maria Schwennesen and Canada's FEI international "O" Judge Kara Whitham. The test rider was the Australian Olympic Dressage Rider Ricky
MacMillan, who wanted to take Lessing home after sitting on him for just one minute!
"The NZ Dressage Home page reported the following: 'With an eye to our future superstars, several of our young horses impressed Australian National Judge and previous Grand Prix representative rider Ricky MacMillan, who said she enjoyed the opportunity of riding them. The Young Horse Class is the kindergarten of our horses of the future and there's
a number of horses here I would be very excited to see in the future," she said.
Hanoverian stallion Vollrath Lessing, owned by Vollrath Stud and ridden by Jutta
Rosenblatt, took MacMillan's eye in particular.'
"As winner of the Five Year Old Astek Stud Young Horse Class, Vollrath Lessing
was awarded the highest score of the day for his rideability with an impressive 9.2.
MacMillan said she could not recall having awarded such a high mark previously
but that his rideability was outstanding.
The judges then named the overall winner of the three age groups 4, 5, & 6 yr old =
Vollrath Lessing with an overall score of 83.75 % a huge 10% higher than the second place getter!
Ricky MacMillan scored his:
At the HoY, Lessing won Class 508 "Stallion for Breeding Performance Horses" and was Reserve Champion over all in the 5 yr old classes.

This is the best of Westphalian/Trakhener/Selle Francaise Sire lines over Thoroughbred -
Hanoverian Mare lines. This young colt had also qualified for the German Federal Foal
Championship being placed 4th.
Everything was set to like him on paper. When I saw him in the morning being paraded
with his dam, I liked his look and movement, which was very regular and with great
'Schwung and Takt'. He looked straight and correct ... and the afternoon brought the
hammer down for him with the auctioneer shouting "Congratulations nach Neuseeland!"
After being weaned from his breeder he went to Werner Heitgress for a couple of months before being transported to England for 3 weeks quarantine and then in NZ another 2 weeks at Karaka Quarantine station.
Fürst Patrick – "Filou" in the paddock, arrived safe and sound on 17th February 2008 at Vollrath. I took some photos upon his release into the paddock – oh boy ... what a mover.
Jutta was ecstatic and I consider myself very lucky to have a good eye for a horse. First DYNAMIT (imp. 1992) followed by WORLDWIDE P.B. (1998) then LESSING (2005) our future star, and now a bit of a punt in FÜRST PATRICK as he will be only 12 months old on 23rd March this year.
Vollrath's motto: Successful breeding must be thinking (and acting) in generations!
There has been some outstanding work produced by some of our members and the horses they have bred this year. This article is primarily to recognize these breeders as well as the work the riders have done. The names after the sire either in brackets or after the slash is the DAM'S sire - just for clarity.
Matthews Hanoverians are well represented throughout the country now and Susan Tomlin has won at almost every major show in the lower North Island with her Level 1 and 2 horses - Giusto MH (Gymnastik Star/Graf Landau) and Domino MH (Dream Boy/Anamour). Domino MH is reserve North Island Champion and Champion at the Reichenbach Festival. Guisto MH is North Island plus Taihape and Wellington Level 1 Champion.
Cassandra Dally has been equally successful at shows all over the upper North Island with her imported Weltmeyer gelding JD Wainui. She has totally dominated Level 5 and is current North Island Champion at this level and Musical Champion at the Taupo Festival. Cassandra also featured in Horse and Pony as Rider of the month recently as well.

Vollrath Stud has had good representation from Worldwide PB offspring - Weltmeister AF with Jennifer Sim to take away the bulk of the prizes at Auckland Champs, World Wonder, Weltstar (The Joker) for Jacqui Thomson, Winnetou (Dynamit), Golden Phoenix (Genius).

New boy Salutation (Sandro Hit/Welt Hit II) for Kallista Field is doing some good work at level 5 in the Central Districts and finished ahead of KH Arvan and Aloof in a lead up class to the Olympic Qualifier. His license will be formalized after Horse of the Year Show.
Newest stallion Prestige VDL (Silvano) made an impressive start to competition here by winning Level 5 Championship at Waitemata in his first outing in New Zealand. He showed beautiful paces and a calm nature.
Eden Dunstonian (Ilkay/Eden Magnacata) is hitting his straps now in Level 2 after being lightly shown by owner Jen Judd until now.
Landioso (Landgraf I) with Jody Hartstone and Soda (Uraeus) with Kallista Field represented the stallions in the teams event. These two also appeared in this order at North Island champs.
