Mark Todd in form at Dauntsey Park horse trials

October 4, 2011

New Zealand eventer Mark Todd had a good innings at the Dauntsey Park horse trials in Wiltshire over the weekend, before heading across the channel to the Boekelo three-star in The Netherlands.

Todd won a novice class on the six-year-old Italian bred Alfiano del Ferro, whom he bought in May this year from French rider Leonard Goerens. The horse, a seven-eights thoroughbred grandson of the Irish stallion Cruising, jumped clear at the Haras one-star in August and has thus qualified for Le Lion at the end of the season. The son of Cougar was ridden by Vittoria Panizzon last season.

Todd was second in another novice class on Bruvver, who was produced by Bruce Haskell, and third in yet another novice section, this time on another new ride, Port Royal.

Temperatures reached the high 20s on the Sunday at the event, in Chippenham. Photographer Al Crook was on the scene to capture some of the Kiwi riders in action.
