It is one of only six four-star horse trials event world-wide, and the only one in the Southern Hemisphere. The event was in jeopardy last year, but
support from sponsors and enthusiasts enabled the it to go ahead.
Event Director Gillian Rolton said support this year from major sponsors, the South Australian Tourism Commission and Equestrian Australia, would enable the Adelaide event to go ahead, from November 12-14.
"Without Equestrian Australia and the South Australian Government's backing of this truly unique event, the Australian International 3 Day Event would surely have been lost to another state," Rolton said.
"In addition to the support from the State Government and Equestrian Australia, the event has also received some generous donations from both local and overseas. The increase in funding from the Adelaide City Council's initial sponsorship has also ensured the event will go ahead this year. This is testament to the value that the event brings to South Australia, as well as to Australia's developing and elite riders."
Events South Australia General Manager Hitaf Rasheed said that last year the South Australian Tourism Commission increased funding and support for the event, committing to a new three year agreement for 2009-2011, and will continue to work closely with event organisers to create a sustainable and viable model.
"The Australian International 3 Day Event is a unique event in the South Australian event calendar and we look forward to another successful event," Rasheed said.
Equestrian Australia Chief Executive Grant Baldock said a four-star event was vital to the Australasian eventing calendar and to the development of elite riders and horses.
