A pony found shot dead in Britain showed evidence of a poorly executed medical procedure, the RSPCA says.
The skewbald pony was found on Sunday in a field on the outskirts of Newport.
It had a deep puncture wound above its left shoulder and carried marks from a poorly carried out medical procedure.
RSPCA inspector Christine McNeil said: "This is absolutely disgusting and the scale of cruelty beggars belief."
She could not imagine the terror and pain the animal endured before dying, she said.
"If someone knows anything about this incident, they should contact the RSPCA immediately."
