Three horses died from a lightning strike in Williamston, South Carolina, on Friday afternoon.
The three quarter horses suffered the fatal shock around 4.30pm.
The owner of the property saw the tragedy unfold from a nearby stable.
She told reporters she felt the shock from the lightning strike, which came to ground only 80 metres away.
The horses, whose names were given as Lester, 15, Ellie, 4, and Simon, 15, were standing near trees when the strike hit the Anderson County property.
