Doctors and neurosurgeons monitoring injured dressage rider Courtney King-Dye have reported small improvements in her condition, her husband, Jason Dye, says.
King-Dye remains in a coma but is stable, following a fall from a horse just over a week ago. She is at St Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach.
"We still have no timeframe for recovery or indication of possible extent of damage, and will not until Courtney wakes from the coma and takes the next step forward in this process," Dye said. "It is a serious injury and the brain needs time to heal. Courtney knows the right direction to take and will fight to get there."
King-Dye has undergone another MRI, which reportedly revealed no damage other than the fractured skull sustained in the initial injury.
Dye thanked the equestrian world for its support, and had been reading to Courtney many of the emails sent in support of his wife. "I have not been able to read them all to her and hopefully I won't have to, I know we would all be much happier if she were reading them herself. Please keep them coming so I can't catch up with them."
He said her room is filling up with cards and photos, and a canvas print of Courtney and Mythilus at the 2008 Olympics is hanging at the foot of her bed. "The nurses all admire it and are using it as inspiration to give her the best care possible, they want to be able to watch her at the 2012 games and point at the television and say that they knew her and cared for her!" he said.
