New head of Equestrian Australia a true lifesaver

February 18, 2010

Grant Baldock

Grant Baldock has been named as the successor for Equestrian Australia chief executive Franz Venhaus, who is retiring.

The appointment will take effect on April 14 in the lead-up to the mid-year retirement of Venhaus, who has been in the role since 2002.

Grant joins Equestrian Australia with more than 15 years of experience in sports administration.

He started his career at the Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club in Queensland, having been Australian surf life saving champion in three consecutive years. He then moved to Sydney to join Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA).

He held various positions with the body, interlaced with sport management assignments at Commonwealth Games and World Swimming Championships.

He is currently general manager of surf sport with the SLSA, where he controls a budget of $A4.9 million and is responsible for the management of surf sports' national partnerships worth more than $A3 million a year.

"We look forward to working closely with Grant," said Equestrian Australia president Paul Cargill.

"He will bring valuable experience and a different perspective to our administration. Grant is committed to enacting the vision of EA and we are very fortunate to have him joining the team.

"We are equally sorry to see Franz vacate the position and thank him for his great contribution over the past eight years.

"Franz will, of course, assist Grant in the weeks after his appointment to make the transition as smooth as possible. I will say more about Franz closer to his retirement."
